Guide to Route 3542: from Coina to Praia do Meco, with shopping, lagoons and sea

Route 3542 connects Coina Station to the Praia do Meco area and crosses one of the most interesting routes between the urban area of Quinta do Conde and the natural landscape of Sesimbra.

The journey begins next to Coina Station, in a regional transport hub, and continues along Avenida 10 de Junho, passing through the shops of Casal do Sapo and the residential areas of Marco Grilo. This first section is marked by convenience: a supermarket, neighborhood services and road connections linking Seixal, Quinta do Conde and Sesimbra.

From the EN 377 onward, the landscape changes. The route continues through pine forests, fields and small communities, crossing Aiana de Baixo and reaching Albufeira Lagoon. This section contains some of the route's main environmental attractions, such as the Lagoa Pequena Interpretive Center, as well as the local market and restaurants overlooking the lagoon.

In the final section, the route passes through Murtinhais, Alfarim and Aldeia do Meco, ending near the road leading to the beach. It is an especially appealing route for combining an outdoor outing, seafood cuisine and a day at the beach, although it is important to plan the return journey.

Notice: the distances shown are approximate and estimated from the coordinates provided for the route and the locations of the establishments and attractions. Route 3542 has five departures in each direction on weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Check with the operator before traveling to confirm schedules, any changes and operating conditions.

The ocean-facing beach is popular with surfers, bodyboarders and skimboarders, while the inner lagoon has calmer waters and is suited to activities such as canoeing, paddleboarding and kitesurfing. The area also has beach facilities, restaurants and parking, but reaching it from the route requires a longer walk than the places located directly along the EN 377.

Moinho de Baixo Beach, popularly called Praia do Meco, has an extensive sandy area, support facilities, restaurants, lifeguard supervision and adapted access for people with reduced mobility.

The beach also holds an important place in the history of naturism in Portugal. The areas designated for this practice are away from the main access point, and visitors should respect the signs and the uses defined for each area. The restaurant serves fish and seafood, emphasizing local products and a relaxed concept, with an indoor dining room, terrace and surroundings facing the pine forest and coastal landscape.

The venue also hosts music programming on some evenings, with concerts and DJ sets announced through its channels. Route 3542 serves as a direct link between regional mobility and the main attractions of Sesimbra's inland and coastal areas. For quick shopping, the best stop is Casal do Sapo; for nature, the Observatório das Aves stop; for markets, food and scenery, the Albufeira Lagoon corridor; and at the final destination, the combination of Praia do Meco and the restaurants in Aldeia. As there are only five departures in each direction on each type of day, the ideal approach is to plan the outing backward and pay particular attention to the return schedule.
